  • Common Canva Questions

    • You can switch the Brand Kit in your designs as many times as you like. To do so, first open the Brand panel by clicking the button labeled "Brand" on the left of your screen (bottom on mobile). Look for a small dropdown (directly beneath the Brand Templates), titled with the current Brand Kit in place. Tap that and select your desired Brand Kit. You can use any element from any Brand Kit in any design.

    • To access Brand Templates, click Brand (stacked on the left side of the screen on desktop, inside the menu on mobile). This will lead you to Brand Templates and Brand Kits. These templates and assets are exclusive to you as faculty and staff members.

Brand Templates can also be accessed and referenced in your existing Designs. Open your Design, then open the Brand Kit menu by tapping the Brand button on the left of your screen (bottom on mobile). At the top of the menu, Brand Templates are listed. From here, you can select layouts to add or apply to your existing designs.

    • Many templates have image frames that are locked in place. This makes adjusting designs faster, as this will size any image to fit automatically just by dragging and dropping the new image on top of the existing one.

If you need to layer a new element on top of an image frame, but Canva is trying to replace the image in the frame instead, try this:

      1. Tap the desired element to place it on your Design, which will put the new element in the direct center of the page.
      2. Drag the element to its desired location while holding the Control key (if you’re opening the menu and blocking your view, begin dragging before hitting Control. It may look like it’s going to replace the image in the frame but it will correct itself once you hit the Control key).

You can also use the Advanced Position controls to more precisely put an element into place by using X-Y coordinates. Access these by tapping the Position button. A panel will open on the left with two tabs titled Arrange and Layers. Switch to the Arrange tab, and use the X and Y coordinates at the bottom.

    • Once a design is approved, Canva locks the file, and any further edits will require a new round of review. If you need to make new changes, you can contact the approver to ask them to rescind the approval to unlock the original, or you can create a copy to edit as needed and then submit that design for approval with your new edits.
